Pacific Power provided the electrical and communication/fiber installation for a new base wide power microgrid at Camp Smith, Oahu.  This project provided the capability for Camp Smith to “island” its power if necessary.  The basis of the project was to protect the Camp Smith power supply from cyber-attack.  The project consisted of the installation of (4) 725Kw, 480v generators.  Generated power was stepped up to 12kv and distributed throughout the base.   Breaker control relays were installed with a new fiber optic communication system.  The communications system was cyber secure and capable of remotely controlling the microgrid using SEL relays, which were installed at every distribution breaker on the base (29).   Our scope included installation of electrical and communication ducts, all 15kv wiring, including termination and testing.  Pacific Power Electrical also installed all 600v wiring, including terminations and testing as well as a 13 section 480 switch gear.  Installation also included (3) new 15kv S&C pad mount switches including new pole risers and cabling, a 3750kva and 500kva pad mount transformer.    Pacific Power Electrical also installed a new fiber optic communication system which consisted of new OSP cabling from the lower campus to the upper campus via manholes, the addition of new switches in various communication rooms, splicing, terminating and testing of the fiber cable and system.    As an R&D aspect of this project, we installed a  battery energy storage system that provided un interrupted power and could provide power back to the distribution system.  Please see website: https://energy.gov/eere/femp/spiders-jctd-smart-cyber-secure-microgrids
