Pacific Power Electrical was contracted by Johnson Controls Lighting Inc. for two Highways LED retrofit projects; a state DOT lighting retrofit of (4) tunnels on Oahu Hawaii and a City and County of Honolulu project.
The state project included the removal and replacement of over 20,000 tunnel lighting fixtures and the installation of a new lighting control system. Work in the tunnels required detailed coordination with the state and HDOT, Hawaii emergency response teams and The Bus, as each tunnel is a vital traffic artery for Oahu. In order to provide a safe working environment for the field staff, tunnels were completely closed to traffic while work was being performed.
The Honolulu city and county LED lighting retrofit work consisted of the replacement of 75,000 existing street light luminaires with new LED luminaires and a web based controls system throughout the island of Oahu. The project required close coordination for lane closures with the city and county as well as state . This project made a dramatic change to the visual landscape of Oahu at night.
